A TOKEN OF HIS LOVE!

“Then Rebekah and her maids arose and they rode on the camels and followed the man. So the servant took Rebekah and departed.” Genesis 24:61. (NKJV).

“How long did it take for them to travel back home, Grandfather?”

“Scholars say the journey from Hebron, where Abraham lived, to the city of Haran, took about seventeen days.”

“By camelback?” Timmy shook his head. “No air conditioning, out in the hot sun. “Wow.”

“Wonder what Rebekah thought on that long dusty trip back to Hebron?

“Imagine. Tired, ready for the trip to be over, Rebecca thinks, ’What in the world am I doing? Away from everyone I know.’ She reached into her pocket, the jewels, cool to her touch.

“‘They’re real. I’m on a journey. My bridegroom will be waiting for me. These jewels—a token of his love. ’ She replaced them, straightened her shoulders on the rocking camel, smiled. ’I believe. All is well’“

“Why do you think it happened like that, Grandfather?”

“We’re on a journey, too, son. The Lord Jesus, our Bridegroom gives us gifts, jewels, for our journey.”

“Jewels? Journey?” Timmy looked at Grandfather who nodded.

“As we journey through life, our Lord gives us gifts to use and to bless others. The trip becomes difficult. We grow tired and weary. So like Rebecca, we take out our jewels, hold them in our hand and when the light hits them, we remember. Haven’t reached our destination, yet He promises to be with us.”

“Am I one of your jewels, Grandfather?”

“Absolutely. You bring me joy and love. I’ll never forget your welcoming smile when I’d come in, tired and weary.”

“You’re funny and give the best hugs—those are jewels, aren’t they?” He nodded. “And you know what?’

“What?”

Timmy tilted his head. “The jewels. The ones in my pocket? I want to share them and make others happy and smile.”

“A worthy goal.” He hugged his grandson. “A worthy goal indeed.”

Kingdom Thinking. The Lord Jesus provides us with jewels for the journey. He uses circumstances and pain to remind us to share our jewels as tokens of His love. Forgiveness. Hope. Jewels to share with the hurting. He promises never to forsake me and loves me with an everlasting love. Would you like to be a part of His jewel collection? He loves you.
