THE RAT ROOM

“Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, ‘If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.’”  John 8:31-32 (NKJV).

“Imagine. Giant rats. Long teeth. Red eyes and they lived in the bedroom at the top of the stairs.”

“Grandfather, sounds like a scary movie.” Timmy grinned.

“When John and I visited our grandparent's home,” Grandfather continued, “We’d reach the top of the stairs, then race to our room at the end of the hall.”

“How old were you guys?” Grandfather grinned.

“Ten years old. We'd heard tales about the rat room all our lives.” Grandfather’s voice dropped to a whisper. “Keep Out was tacked on the door.” He leaned towards Timmy. “One day we decided to find out if the story was true.

“Bored due to the rain keeping us in our room, we waited until the grownups were downstairs in the den. I poked my head out, all quiet so we sneaked into the room.

“The door slammed. John grabbed my arm. Shadows against the drawn shades danced as lightning slashed, followed by growls of thunder. Boxes lined the shelves and a trunk, tucked in the
, held a large cage covered by a sheet.”

“A cage of rats?” Timmy leaned forward.

“Nope. Empty. Shoulders slumped, we slipped out but as we opened the door, Uncle Robert leaned against the wall, his arms crossed.”

“‘Find anything interesting?’ He grinned. ‘Know how the room got its name? My sister’s boyfriend gave her white mice. They escaped from the cage so many times, she gave them back,’ he said, lips twitching.”

“But Grandfather, I thought...”

“I know. Incorrect information affects us. John and I nearly broke our necks running by the rat room before we learned the truth. The truth can set us free. Our Lord tells us so in His word.”

Kingdom Thinking. During this pandemic of Covid 19, we hear offers of false cures, confusing theories about the virus--many creating fear. As a follower of the Lord Jesus, He promises me truth for He is Truth. He loves me and will never leave me. He offers the same to you. Won’t you come?
