AN UNBREAKABLE AGREEMENT!

“Then Jonathan and David made a covenant because he loved him as his own soul. And Jonathan took off the robe that was on him and gave it to David, with his armor, even to his sword and his bow and his belt.” 1 Samuel 18:3,4. (NKJV).

“Wouldn't Johathan be the next king after his father, King Saul?" Grandfather leaned back in his chair.

“He would, Timmy. Prince Jonathan, King Saul’s son, was the heir to the throne. But we see a picture here when Jonathan and David entered into a covenant, an unbreakable agreement. In a way, they exchanged places.

First, they exchanged robes, the robe representing the person. Next, they offered their armor, belt, and sword saying: If you need help, call on me. I’ll fight for you--"

“Grandfather, I wouldn’t give my sword away.”

“Understood. But Timmy, this life-changing decision wasn't entered into lightly. These instruments of power and protection were usually surrendered to the enemy. But Jonathan gave them to David gladly, as he transferred his royal power from Saul’s family to David.”

“Why would he do that?”

“Jonathan knew David would be the next king.” Grandfather held up his hand. “I don’t know how he knew. Maybe Samuel, the prophet, told him. But he trusted David to make the right decisions and knew The Lord God was with him.”

“Why is that so important?” Grandfather looked Timmy in the eye.

“The most important thing we'll ever learn is the great love the Lord Jesus has for us. He is our Jonathan. He willingly left His place in Heaven to come to earth and exchange places with us.

"There was no way I could be in the royal family. Then the Lord Jesus came with his invitation of forgiveness, grace, and love.”

"For me, too, Grandfather?" Grandfather smiled.

"Without a doubt, son, Without a doubt."

"I don't feel any different."

"Has nothing to do with feelings. They change quicker than the weather. We're talking about a covenant--an unbreakable agreement. One that is built on the rock, Our Lord Jesus Christ."

Kingdom Thinking. The Lord Jesus promises the same to you. He loves you with an everlasting love and promises never to leave nor forsake you. Won’t you come to Him?
