BELONG TO WHO?

In John 14:16-18, we read: “And I will pray the Father and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever--the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.”

“You never felt you belonged?”

“No,” Aunt Sadie said, staring over Timmy’s left shoulder like she was seeing another time.

“I was five years old when Mama died and Aunt and Uncle took me in. I guess in their own way they loved me but I never felt like I belonged. Their children came first. I, an orphan, could never measure up to them."

Aunt Sadie looked up, tears in her eyes. She brushed them away, tightened her jaw to hide the quiver of her chin.”

“That’s not the way I remember it,” Grandfather said, walking into the den. “I always thought of you as a special member of the family. I taught you to drive...”

“I remember,” she grinned. “I’ll never forget the way you clutched the car seat--like a dying man clinging to a life preserver. You’d have thought we would going into the river.” Timmy chuckled.

“I also remember being the guinea pig when you learned to cook.” Grandfather crossed his arms.

“You lived to talk about it,” she declared, her voice softening. “We did have some good times, didn’t we?” Grandfather gave her a hug.

“You’ll always be special to me, Sadie. You are a member of our family.

“I have to remember emotions can deceive and leave us feeling alone, unloved and hopeless. Remember whose you are, Sadie. A daughter of the King and my sister.” She smiled up at him.

Kingdom Thinking. I choose to remember His promises and wipe away the tears of self pity and let the tears of joy stream forth and wash away the lies of the enemy. The Lord Jesus loves me with an everlasting love and promises never to leave me. He promises the same to you. He’ll never leave us as orphans. Won’t you come to Him?
