WHAT A MESS!

THE FRONT PORCH VISIT--A SOUTHERN TRADITION
WHAT A MESS!

“For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.” (2 Corinthians 5:21 NKJV).

“No time to lose, Timmy. Hand me your suitcase.” Grandfather tossed it in the back seat. “What’s in it? A bag of cement?” Timmy shrugged. “We’ll only be gone for the weekend.” He added bags of groceries.

“We taking food?” Grandfather chuckled.

“I always prepare red chicken stew for dinner on Saturday. Have everything except for the chicken--I’ll buy it when we get there.”

“Let’s check the house one more time. Don’t want to leave anything important.” Timmy ducked his head, grinned.

“I thought I put your shaving kit in last year.” He lifted it. “Got it.”

“Okay then.” Buckled up, Timmy bounced. “Excited, are you? It’ll be a great time with your cousins at the beach.” He put the key in the ignition. “Let’s have our traveling prayer.” Timmy bowed, sighed. After the Amen, Grandfather winked. “And away we go.” He turned the key.

Click. Click.

What’s wrong?” Grandfather rested both hands on the steering wheel, eyed Timmy.

“Battery’s dead. Have you...?” Timmy twisted his hands.

“Guess I left the radio on when I washed the truck yesterday.” He bit his lip, shook his head. “We won’t be able to go and it’s my fault.” Grandfather took a deep breath.

“What a mess!” He slapped the steering wheel with his hands. “And it’s not stopping us. Hand me my cell phone. AAA will have us on the road in no time.” He hugged his grandson. “And next time? Turn the radio off.” Timmy grinned, then frowned.

“Like our Scripture this morning? Jesus took my sin on Him so I could be His.”

“Couldn’t have said it better myself.”

Kingdom Thinking. Like that truck I found myself powerless although loaded and ready to go. To the world all appeared well while I was a hopeless mess. Then the Lord Jesus offered me new life, His righteousness and power in me. He promises never to leave me and loves me with an everlasting love. He offers the same to you. Won’t you come?
