In 1 John 1:9-10, we read: “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us.”
“Look at my hands, Grandfather.”
“Definitely need a scrubbing with soap.” He lifted his grandson to the sink. “We’ll wash our hands to be clean for supper.” Grandfather handed him the bar of soap, watching him play as he washed his hands, allowing the dirty suds and water to go down the drain.
Grandfather checked his hands, then the towel, looked at his grandson. “If our hands are clean, the towel won’t be dirty. Uh-oh. You left evidence of hidden dirt.”
“I don’t see dirt,” the boy answered, inspecting his hands.
“It’s there.” Back to the sink, more washing with the soap, rinsing with water, then toweling. “Well,” Grandfather said. “Towel looks clean now. You did a good job.”
The boy looked at his Grandfather. “You did the work for me. You used your soap and you washed my hands. Thank you.” He wrapped his arms around grandfather’s neck in a hug.
All my attempts with the world’s water did nothing to cleanse me of my sin. I was devastated. Hopeless. Lost. No amount of scrubbing or doing good deeds sufficed. Then the Lord Jesus came, offered me new life in Him because of His shed blood on the cross. He declared me clean because I chose to believe in His Power to make all things new.
Kingdom Thinking. The Lord Jesus offers the same wonderful option to you. He loves you with an everlasting love. He promises never to leave nor forsake you. Won’t you accept Him? He waits for you.
