POWER WASHING

In 1 John 1:9-10, we read: “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us.”

“Look at my hands.” Timmy held them up..

“You wear dirt like gloves,” Grandfather chuckled. “Definitely need a scrubbing,” He nodded toward the sink.

His grandson grabbed the bar of soap, squeezing it in the water. He splashed, popping bubbles. Dirty suds and water twirled down the drain.

“If your hands are clean, the towel won’t be dirty.” Grandfather handed him a white towel. "Uh-oh. Lots of smudges. Wash them again.”

“I don’t see dirt.” He inspected his hands.

Back at the sink, Grandfather did the washing. “Well,” Grandfather said. “Towel looks clean now. “Good job.”

Timmy tilted his head. “You did the work for me. You used your soap and you washed my hands. Thank you.” He wrapped his arms around grandfather.

“You’re welcome. Often we have dirt in places we can’t reach or forget about.”

“Like under my fingernails?”

“Right. We try to clean ourselves and miss spots others can see but especially God.” Grandfather smiled. Timmy’s eyebrows raised.

“You’re not talking about dirt now?”

“Sin is like dirt. It clings to us and when we try to clean it, residue is left. I was hopeless, lost. Unable to get clean. Then the Lord Jesus came, offered me new life in Him because of His shed blood on the cross.  He declares me clean because I choose to believe in His Power to make all things clean and new.”

Kingdom Thinking. The Lord Jesus offers the same wonderful option to you. He loves you with an everlasting love. He promises never to leave nor forsake you. Won’t you accept Him? He waits for you.
