TREES

In Luke 6:43-44, we read: ”For a good tree does not bear bad fruit, nor does a bad tree bear good fruit. For every tree is known by its own fruit. For men do not gather figs from thorns, nor do they gather grapes from a bramble bush.”

"Why do you want this one, Grandfather?"

"This tag lets me know this is a Pink Lady Apple tree."

“But this one is larger. It’ll grow faster.” Timmy pointed.

“If you read the tag, Timmy, you'll see that's a pear tree. They look similar now but they'll have different fruit. Would you rather eat a Pink Lady or a pear?"

"Pink Lady. And Gram make pies with them, too. How long before apples will grow on this one?"

"At few years. But they'll be worth waiting for." Grandfather turned to Timmy. "Kind of like people."

“What do you mean, Grandfather?"

"You'd never expect to find pears on this apple tree, would you?"

"No way." Timmy chuckled.

"But we expect people who don't know Jesus to act like they know Him. Like hoping for apples to grow on a pear tree. Or they may be young Christians, not bearing fruit yet.“

“Like our new apple tree? Has to grow first?”

“Exactly,” Grandfather said.

Kingdom Thinking. Too many times in my life I’ve expected someone to act a certain way because that’s the comfortable way for me. One thing I do know--the Lord Jesus plants the orchard of life and He is able to do marvelous things in His orchard. He, not men, knows exactly what I need to turn to Him. Sometimes, brambles and thorns.

The Lord Jesus loves me with an everlasting love. He promises never to leave nor forsake me. He offers the same to you. Won't you come to Him? He is waiting.
