THE FOX HORN

In Psalm 68:32-33 & Hebrews 4:7b, we read: “Sing to God, you kingdoms of the earth; Oh sing praises to the Lord. To Him who rides on the heaven of heavens, which were of old! Indeed, He sends out His voice, a mighty voice. Today, if you will hear His voice, Do not harden your hearts.”

Sam’s head jerked up. “The fox horn. Gotta go."

“But’s it not dark,” Timmy argued. “Can’t you stay a few minutes longer?” Sam shook his head. Timmy gathered his ball and bat, headed home.

“Not a good practice?” Grandfather said, noticing the slumped shoulders of his grandson.

“It was until the fox horn sounded.”

“Ah, the summons.”

“The practice was going great but we didn't get to finish.” Grandfather rested his chin on his hand.

“That’s unusual. Maybe a family emergency?”

“Didn’t think of that.” Timmy’s brow furrowed. “Should we go to his house?” Grandfather nodded, grabbed his jacket, closed the door behind them.

The lights on the EMS vehicle flashed. “Hurry, Grandfather. Something’s wrong.” They arrived in time to see Sam’s grandmother being wheeled out of the front door. Sam ran to them.

“Grandmother fell in the kitchen, hurt her hip. They don’t think it’s broken but are taking her for x-rays.” He watched them load the stretcher, his face serious.

“Luke? Let Sam go home with us for the night. You can call with an update.”

“Much obliged. I’ll do that,” Sam’s father said.

As they headed for home, Sam's voice trembled. “How if I hadn’t gone home when Dad blew the fox horn?” Grandfather put his arm around him.

“But you did. You heard, you responded.” He looked from Timmy to Sam. “It’s important to respond to the right voice. You knew the fox horn signaled you to go home.

“Now I pray we respond to the Lord’s voice as easily as Sam did to the fox horn.” The boys nodded in agreement.

Kingdom Thinking. So many voices sound out around us. It’s important I recognize the voice of the Lord Jesus. He sends out His mighty voice reminding me He will never leave nor forsake me and loves me with an everlasting love. He’s calling to you, too. Do you hear His voice?
