In Psalm 66:10, we read: “For you, O God, have tested us; You have refined us as silver is refined.” And Proverbs 16:16: “How much better to get wisdom than gold! And to get understanding is to be chosen rather than silver.”
She placed the silver tray by the kitchen sink. It would take silver polish and elbow grease to remove the black tarnish and bring to life the gleam of the silver. Deep down, the silver was the same as the day it had been purified and made into a tray. The tarnish gathered over time as the tray remained on the shelf not cleaned properly or not in use.
The air and pollutants on or near the tray caused the tarnish. The tray could do nothing about it. To be cleaned, someone who was able and willing had to polish and clean it. And buff it when necessary.
I am like that tray. In this world I live in, I come in contact with all sorts of pollution be it physical, mental or spiritual. The tarnish begins to build without my realizing it. I need someone who is able and willing to clean and purify me of my tarnish (sin).
Then Jesus came. He saw I couldn’t pass the test. I couldn’t remove any of the tarnish. Oh, I could act nice for a while but not long. I would try to change but...I would fall back into my old ways.
So He came to earth as a man. He allowed sinful, tarnished man, who thought he could follow the law, to nail Him to the tree. He took all the tarnish with Him and nailed it there.
His arms are still open wide. For you and for me. He wants to gather up us up and love us for eternity. He has promised never to leave us nor forsake us.
Kingdom Thinking. Understand. The Lord Jesus has taken the tarnish, no matter how deep the stain, and nailed it to the cross so I can come to Him. He is the one that paid the price. He wants to clean my live so that I reflect Him. He loves me with an everlasting love. Do you want to be cleansed and loved for eternity? He waits for you.
