SMELL LIKE A SNICKERDOODLE?

In 2 Corinthians 2:14-16, we read: “Now thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place. For we are to God the fragrance of Christ among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing. To the one we are the aroma of death leading to death, and to the other the aroma of life leading to life.”

She ran up the steps, across the back porch and into the kitchen. She stood still, eyes closed, and inhaled deeply. Ahhh. Cinnamon, gloves, vanilla--must be what Heaven smells like.

“Come on, dumpling,” Grandmother hugged her, a smile in her voice. “Get your apron on. We’ve a lot of work to do.”

Cing’s tongue poked out of the side of her mouth, her brows furrowed. She rolled the dough in a circle. Well, almost a circle.

“Looking good, dear.” Her grandmother patted her shoulder. “Your cookies will be the best.”

She shivered as excitement zipped through her, her hazel eyes sparkling. “I love working with you, Grandmother. You make it fun.” She rolled the dough then cut out the cookies.

Work was in full swing when Grandfather walked into the kitchen. He didn’t mind the floured hands that snaked around his neck, giving him a big hug.

“Ummm, Cing,” he said. “You smell like a snickerdoodle, my favorite.”

She giggled, then went back to her happy work with Grandmother. They would have plenty of cookies to share with neighbors and friends.

We share the aroma of our lives. As the Lord Jesus lives through us, his sweet smelling aroma of love penetrates, touching others around us. A sweet perfume to those who love or will love Him but the stench of death to those that reject Him.

Kingdom Thinking. The Lord Jesus came at the darkest time in history to bring Light and Hope. The Son of God chose to be born in a lowly stable, not a sweet smelling place, with rumors flying about his birth. He understands my pain and disappointment and offers His everlasting love. Forsaken at the cross, He promises never to forsake me. He offers His sweet-smelling balm to you. Won’t you come to Him.
