In Philippians 2: 5-7, we read: “Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal wth God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men.”
He had a choice. After seven years of bondage, he had served his time. He was now set free. But if he chose freedom, he couldn’t take his wife and children with him. They belonged to the master.
He knew the law concerning servants, (Exodus 21: 2-6). Now the choice was his to make but once made, there was no turning back.
He chose his wife and children. The master talked with him and made certain this was his choice. Then he took him to the doorpost of the house, and with an awl, he pierced his right ear lobe. A large hole, clearly to be seen by anyone. From that day forward, he would have the mark of the bondservant.
Everywhere he went, the mark gave him authority. He took responsibility for the master’s household. He now held the keys. He was accountable to the master, no one else. If an enemy came against him, he would think twice about the attack. This mark of the bondservant assured the enemy that the master would be the one to whom he answered.
Choosing to be a bondservant not only set him free, but gave him the chance to serve. His master, his family, and his God.
This picture of the bondservant is plainly stated in God’s Word. It’s important to me. If my Lord and Savior chose this way, then, I, too, choose it. Now wherever I go, I know that I go in the name of my master. I have His mark. When an enemy comes against me, I know my Master will take care of me.
Kingdom Thinking. The Lord Jesus has promised never to leave nor forsake me. He loves me with an everlasting love. He has set me free to share His Love. What about you? Would you like to be set free? He’s waiting for you.
