In Matthew 2:1-2, we read: “Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the East came to Jerusalem, saying, ‘Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we have seen His star in the East and have come to worship Him.’”
“How did the wise men know to come to Bethlehem?”
“They followed the star, Timmy. Astrologers, who studied the stars, saw this unusual star, believed it was a sign from God. They called it ‘His star’ which had guided them to Israel. This scared Herod. He didn’t want anyone to take his kingdom.”
“Grandfather, why didn’t they go to Bethlehem instead of Jerusalem? Then Herod wouldn’t know about the King of the Jews.”
“The Lord God has His plan. He loves us sinners, even Herod. ’He’s not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.’” 2 Peter 3:9.
“He loves me that much? Even when He sees everything I do and say?” Grandfather nodded. “And He loves the wise men?” Timmy shook his head. “Wow.”
Grandfather smiled. "if we look back at history, we see He let Daniel be taken into captivity...”
“Daniel who was put in the lions den?”
“The same. Remember he was a wise man in the courts of Babylon.”
“You think he started a wiseman school?” Grandfather chuckled.
“What I want you to see, Timmy, is our Lord is in charge and allows us to tell others about the Lord Jesus. We go and tell just as the wise men did.”
Kingdom Thinking. When we think of the wisemen, we often think of smart, wealthy men who came seeking the newborn King. But this is history--His Story. A story that brings hope and healing to anyone who believes. A shepherd or a wealthy person. All who are wise seek Him. How about you? Do you seek Him?
