STUCK IN THE MUCK--UNFORGETTABLE!

In Psalm 40:3, we read: “He has put a new song in my mouth--praise to our God; Many will see it and fear, and will trust in the Lord.”

“Grandfather. We need to get going.”

“Couldn’t go without these, Timmy.” Holding up his binoculars, he got into the truck. “I want Vera and Tom to see our beautiful waterways in a way they’ll never forget.”

“Grew up here with you, remember?” Tom chuckled. “But this is a special treat.”

Finally launched, the Blue Jay, a sixteen footer, zipped along the channel. Timmy leaned back to enjoy the ride. Gulls soared, a blue heron flew out of the marsh, croaking his raspy disapproval. Suddenly showers of pluff mud pelted them and the boat skidded to a stop.

“What happened?” Vera said.

Grandfather dipped his head. “Should’ve watched the channel markers. The high tide covered a swarth of pluff mud with a few inches of water.”

“Don’t worry, Grandfather. I’ll get out and push.” Timmy jumped out, sunk up to his armpits. He pushed, the boat wobbled in a circle. Grandfather and Tom jumped out to help--same circle. Stuck in the muck.

“We need your help, my dear,” Tom said to Vera.

“But I have on a white bathing suit.” She sighed. “All right. Eww. Something is touching me in this oozy stuff and it stinks.” Her lips trembled. “We’re trapped. The mud has won.”

“Let’s pray,” Grandfather bowed his head.

“Not much use,” Tom commented. “Tide’s going out.”

As Grandfather prayed a breeze of encouragement caressed the sweaty faces.

“Push,” Timmy yelled. The boat slipped off the mud flat and into the channel. He pumped his arm in the air. “All right!”

“You’ve done it,” Tom said. “We’ve seen these waterways in a way we’ll never forget.” Everybody laughed.

Kingdom Thinking. When life presents surprises and uses a shiny exterior to disguise objects below the surface, I get stuck in the muck. Not my God. He knows I need to see Him at work--to know that He keeps His promises. He will never leave me and loves me forever. Therefore He gets the glory and He puts a new song of praise in my mouth. He offers the same promise to you. Won’t you come to Him?
