“A Man stood opposite him with His sword drawn in His hand. And Joshua went to Him and said to Him, ‘Are You for us or for our adversaries?’ So He said, ‘No, but as Commander of the army of the Lord I have now come.’ And Joshua fell on his face to the earth and worshiped, and said to Him, ‘What does my Lord say to His servant?’” Joshua 5:13b-15. (NKJV).
“What would you do if the Commander of the army of the Lord came to you?” Grandfather said.

“And rightly so, son. He carried a sword.”
“I don’t get it. He didn’t say who He was for.”
“Who did He approach?”
“Joshua.”
“His answer?” Timothy tilted his head.
“He didn’t answer the question, but told Joshua who He was—the Commander of the army of God.” Timmy tilted his head. “That’s important, isn’t it?” Grandfather smiled.
“He got Joshua’s attention. He wanted him to know to whom he belonged. We’ll always have adversaries but the Commander of the Lord’s army, the Lord Jesus Christ, has authority over them.
“How did Joshua respond?”
“He fell down and worshiped.”
“You're right, Timmy, but he also made a declaration. He knew he served the Commander. In other words, 'Your word is my command.'”
“Does that happen today?” He stared at grandfather. “Does He want me to serve?”
“Indeed He does. He asks us to follow Him.”
“How do I follow Him?
“It’s not enough to know about Him. You must know Him personally.”
“That’s impossible, Grandfather. There’s no way I can know Him…”
“Trust me. He’ll come to you…”
“With a sword?”
“That's the way He got Joshua’s attention.” He turned to Timmy? “What’s your name?”
“Grandfather, you know my name’s Timmy. I’m named after you.”
Grandfather chuckled. “'Course I do and so does the Lord Jesus. He’ll come to you because He loves you and knows your name.”
“You’re sure I’ll know?”
“Oh believe me, you’ll know.”
“Will you pray with me, Grandfather? I don’t want to miss Him when He comes.”
He nodded. “Heavenly Father, I come to You…”
“Lord, this is Timmy. I want to know You. Will you come and show me what I’m supposed to do? Thank you. Amen.”
“Amen,” Grandfather said as he hugged his grandson.
Kingdom Thinking. I thought the world different from Joshua’s time, but is it? Adversaries abound, but our Commander, the Lord Jesus Christ, is in control. He loves me with an everlasting love and promises never to leave nor forsake me. He offers the same to you. Won’t you come?
