THE LITTLE THINGS IN LIFE

In Song of Solomon 2:15, we read: “Catch us the foxes, the little foxes that spoil the vines, For our vines have tender grapes.”

She didn’t pay attention at first to the sound of the bees. They didn’t attack her so why worry. The Lady Bank’s rose  cascaded over the pergola across the front of the garage in lovely yellow blossoms. The bees were at work. She did notice some holes drilled in the crosspieces of the pergola but went about her business as usual.

The blossoms faded and drifted away in the breeze leaving lush foliage to shade the area. The bees left the area...or so she thought.

A rat-a-tat sound alerted her to a problem. As she stepped into the garage, she saw the area under the pergola dusted with wood chips. The woodpeckers had found a ready supply of food--the larvae of Carpenter bees.

As she hurried out, three large Red-Bellied Woodpeckers took flight. She cleaned up the floor. But later in the day, they returned to finish the job leaving air vents in the once solid wood.

How many times in my life have I ignored the little things in my life, allowing them to become a problem. In the Song of Solomon, the writer warns of the little foxes that gnaw on the roots of the vines thereby destroying them. A little thing that causes big problems.

As I travel this journey called life, I realize little things can make or break my day. The way I greet a friend. A visit. A note. But most important, that I communicate with my Lord.  He tells me in his Word that He loves me with an everlasting love. He promises never to leave me nor forsake me. With such promises, I can go to Him, confess the sins that provide a food supply for the enemy, and know that He can handle both the bees and the woodpeckers in my life.

Kingdom Thinking. I know that The Lord Jesus is the All Powerful One, the Mighty One, the All Knowing One. But most important, I know that He loves me. Not because I deserve it, but because His Word says so. How about you? Do you have bees and woodpeckers in your life? Do you need His Love? He waits for you.
