HIS JEWELS

In Malachi 3:17, we read: “‘They shall be Mine,’ says the Lord of hosts, 'On the day that I make them My jewels. And I will spare them As a man spares his own son who serves him.’ Then you shall again discern Between the righteous and the wicked, Between one who serves God And one who does not serve Him.”

“A normal name would have been nice. Like Sally, or Elizabeth. Any would be better than Jewel.”

“But you were not just a normal baby. You were our gift. To love, to nurture, to guide.” He looked at his daughter. “Do you know the story of how a diamond goes from a rock that looks like dirty glass to a brilliant gem?” She shook her head, sat by him and waited.

"After the gem has been cleaned, the skilled diamond cutter uses the Sarin machine to map the diamond. This machine shows the proper cuts for the best possible brilliance. The process of  the diamond cutter, delicate and time consuming, can take several weeks or longer.

"The skill of the diamond cutter still provides the main source of beauty of the diamond. From the foot driver in times gone by, to the use of modern technology, the gem, pure carbon, formed under intense heat and pressure in the depths of the earth, provides beauty as the light strikes its many facets.” He looked at Jewel.

“In the sixteenth century, lovers exchanged ’Scribbling rings.’ The top of the ring, usually flat, was pointed. The lovers would leave notes written on glass with these rings.”

“Is that the truth or did you make that up,” Jewel asked.

He smiled. “Truth. You are a Jewel.”

Perhaps you’ve said the same to our Heavenly Father. I would rather be like _______. (You fill in the blank.) Our Lord in His love for me knows exactly what I need. He has created me to be one of His jewels. Tough process that it is, under heat and pressure, He is making me into the jewel that He has designed, to shine for Him. He loves me that much.

Kingdom Thinking. The Lord Jesus has promised never to leave nor forsake me. He loves me with an everlasting love. He has created me as a jewel for His Glory. He offers the same to you. Won’t you come to Him?
