In Hebrews 10:23, we read: “Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.”
“Timmy, I need your help with this.”
“With what, Grandfather?”
“I have to stake this young tree. See here? It’s bending and needs support.”
Timmy walked over to the tree. “Why’s it bent?”
“Could be many things. Large shrubs crowding it, taking the light. Or maybe a storm crippled it. Whatever the cause, it needs support to grow straight and tall.”
“I’ll hold the stake while you tie the guy wire, Grandfather.”
“Thank you. There. That’ll hold it for a while. We’ll check from time to time to make sure the tree gets the right amount of support.”
“It’ll grow straight and tall?”
“If it gets the right support and nourishment, it’ll do fine. Like you, Timmy.”
“Me?” Timmy’s voice squeaked surprise.
Grandfather nodded. “You’re a special little tree that the Lord gave to me. I help you to learn and choose the right way. Storms come in our lives. Some big, some not so big. We may lose someone we love or maybe choose the wrong way. But if we hold on to Jesus who is our Hope, He’s our stake. He doesn’t move and He is faithful.”
“How about the guy wire?”
“The guy wire is like the Holy Spirit that holds us. Wouldn’t do much good for the stake to have no connection to the tree, would it?” Timmy shook his head.
Kingdom Thinking. I have a tendency to bend or turn away from the Lord. Not intentionally. But the Lord Jesus in His loving way, tells me to hold fast to Him. He promises never to leave nor forsake me and He loves me with an everlasting love. He offers the same to you. Won’t you choose Him?
