In Titus3:3-5, we read: “For we ourselves were also once foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving various lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful and hating one another. But when the kindness and the love of God our Savior toward men appeared, not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit,...”
She sat, propped against the wall, head bowed, shoulders slumped.
“Daughter?” She looked up to see who would speak kindly to her. Her father and mother were dead. She was alone in the world.
He stooped down, gently lifted her chin until she looked into his eyes. Those eyes. Piercing. Seeing into the darkest places of her heart. But...something different. No condemnation.
“Come,” he said. But still she hesitated. The parade of “what-if’s” marched through her mind. What if he tricked her? What if he took advantage of her? What if he discarded her? Could she trust him?
“I have not come to harm you,” his gentle voice said. “I have come to offer you a new life.”
Doubts bombarded her. And somewhere inside she heard the screaming of “No, don’t trust him. What do you know about him?”
“Silence,” he commanded the voices. “The choice is yours. This life of darkness or a life of light.”
She looked into his face. Saw the tenderness there, the love in his eyes. She lifted her crippled arm to him. He gently held her hand, pulled her to her feet. For the first time since she could remember, she stood tall, her arm and back straight.
She fell at his feet. Weeping she washed them with tears of gratitude and adoration.
I don’t know about you, but I find it hard to believe that the Lord Jesus would stop and call to me. That He would care and love me so much that He provided a way for me to be in His family. His kindness and love washed me clean. He saved me through His power and might.
Kingdom Thinking. At the point in our lives we are the lowest, he stops and calls. He loves with an everlasting love. He has promised never to leave nor forsake us. He stands in front of you. Will you believe Him?
