In John 1:3-5, we read: “All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.
He shook his head. “I still don’t understand.”
His father thought for a moment. “You remember the nightmares you had when you were little?” He nodded. “What happened?”
“You would come into my room and turn on the light and chase the darkness away.”His son added, “Then you would use your big flashlight and shine it under my bed and in the closet and all the dark places.”
“How did you feel when we chased the darkness away.”
“Good. I wasn’t scared any more. Then you gave me your flashlight for me to keep and shine anytime I needed, but the batteries burned out.”
“Son, that’s what the Lord Jesus did when He came to earth and took on the form of a man. He is Light, the Light of the world. For those who believed, His Light came into them to stay. Forever. He’s real. We don’t need batteries. But most folks didn’t believe Him.”
“Why, Daddy? That doesn’t make sense. Didn’t they know that He came to shine His Light? So they wouldn’t be scared?”
“Some of them did. They saw the empty tomb. But others? They didn’t understand and instead of believing Him, they chose to stay in their darkness.”
It took me many years to realize the importance of the Light. I knew about Him. I sang about Him. I prayed to Him when I needed something. But I had never allowed His Light to come in and fill my life. I limited Him. Being the gentleman He is, He never forced Himself on me. Finally in desperation, I fell on my knees and invited Him to come in. It’s all about the Light, the Lord Jesus Christ.
Kingdom Thinking. The Lord Jesus has promised the same to you. He has promised never to leave nor forsake you. He loves you with an everlasting love. Won’t you come to Him? He waits for you.
