In Luke 17: 12-16, we read: “Then as He entered a certain village, there met Him ten men who were lepers, who stood afar off. And they lifted up their voices and said, ‘Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!’ So when He saw them, He said to them, ‘Go, show yourselves to the priests.’ And so it was that as they went, they were cleansed. And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, returned, and with a loud voice glorified God, and fell down on his face at His feet, giving Him thanks. And he was a Samaritan.”
“Mama, why did only one of the men thank Jesus?”
She had read the Bible story to her little daughter before she tucked her in bed. As she looked at her now, she realized that question defined mankind. But for now innocent eyes stared into hers, desiring an answer. Help me, Lord, she prayed.
“I wish I knew the answer to that, sweetie. We take for granted the gifts that the Lord Jesus gives us. Food and health and loving care.
“Tell you what,” she said. “Why don’t you and I try to thank Him more. Not just for the big things but for the little things, too.” She looked at her daughter. “Will you help me to remember to give thanks?” A big smile and a nod answered her question.
Thanksgiving reminds us to give thanks. But the scriptures tell us that this is not a seasonal activity but a way of life. The Lord Jesus gave His life, paying for all my sins, so that I could be with Him for ever.
Kingdom Thinking. I choose to give thanks to our Lord Jesus for He loves me with an everlasting love and He has promised never to leave nor forsake me. He offers the same to you. Won’t you be the one that recognizes what He has done for you? He loves you and waits with open arms.
