HOMECOMING

In 1 John 2:28, we read: “And now, little children, abide in Him, that when He appears, we may have confidence and not be ashamed before Him at His coming.”

"Is Daddy coming home today?” Jimmy asked, his chin on his hand.

“I’m not sure.” Mom looked at Jimmy. “In this letter he wrote he would be coming soon.” She handed the letter to Jimmy to read it again, smiled, knowing he knew the words by heart.

“If Daddy said he’s coming, I believe him.” He looked at his mom. “My room is clean and I have cleaned the yard. Will he be happy with what I’ve done?”

The mother looked at her son. So like his father with many of his physical attributes but also his kind and loving heart. Two weeks can be an eternity to an eight-year old.

“Why don’t you help me to gather some flowers to put on the dining table? We want him to know that we are expecting him.” Jimmy nodded.

As Mom held the last flower to put in the arrangement, they heard the car turn into the driveway, the car door slam. Jimmy ran to the front door, and on to the porch.

“Daddy’s home,” he called. He ran down the steps into the arms of his dad. His dad lifted him up in a tight hug. “I still fit, don’t I Dad?”

“Indeed you do, son.” Dad looked around. “Who cleaned the yard?” Jimmy smiled. “You?” Jimmy nodded. “I’m so proud of you.” He stuck his hand in his pocket. “This is for you.”

“Thank you, Dad,” Jimmy said, as he took the small box, opened it. “I love this,” he held up a little red truck. “But most of all, I love you. I’m so glad you’re home.”

Our Heavenly Father loves me much more than Jimmy’s father loved him. He knew He would have to provide a way for me to be able to run into His arms with complete trust. For my sins separated me from Him. A list of things set me apart. At the top of the list, unbelief.

Then The Lord Jesus came. He took all of my sins and nailed them to the cross, opening the way for me to run into His arms.

Kingdom Thinking. The Lord loves me with an everlasting love. He has promised never to leave nor forsake me. He promises the same to you. Would you like to become His child? He has provided the way. He waits for you.
