THE PILOT

In John 8: 31-32, we read: “Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free.”

“Flying at night will allow us another day in the Islands."  Trained in the US Air Force as a fighter pilot, my husband flew a Cessna 172. His plan sounded like a good one so it was put into motion.

On the appointed evening, we took off, heading for the Bahamas. Another couple accompanied us, the guys seated up front, us ladies in the back.

It didn’t take long for the hum of the engines to lull me to sleep.

I woke at the sound of my husband’s voice making a request to land and refuel before we headed out over the Atlantic Ocean, the last leg of the trip.

The tower gave the coordinates but I sat up as I heard my husband's questions. He asked the tower to check. Then assured them the lighted runway was not the one requested. Finally after more comments and questions, different runway lights flashed on, the former ones winked out.

On my spiritual journey I need a pilot I can trust. One that is truthful. One that knows when I’m landing in the wrong place. As I looked out of the window of the plane that night, the landing lights had looked right to me. But not to the eye of the experienced pilot with instrument rating.

Our Lord Jesus has promised that if I abide in His word, I will be His disciple. But more than that--I will know the truth. Because He who is truth abides in me. He will pilot me. He will bring me home safely.

Kingdom Thinking. Perhaps like me, you have been deceived and believed the wrong coordinates for your life journey. The Good News is that the Lord Jesus will pilot you. He loves you with an everlasting love. He will never leave nor forsake you. Won’t you come to Him? He waits for you.
