THE PEARL

In 1 Corinthians 1:18, we read: “For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.”

He had searched for the perfect pearl for years. Now in this out-of-the way shop, he spotted it. But he didn’t want the owner to know its value so he took his time, looking at other items available.

Shock showed on his face when the merchant approached him and said: “You have found the pearl. This is your lucky day. It’s for sale.”

“How much?” The man asked. The perfect pearl took his breath away. He couldn’t believe his luck.

“How much are you willing to pay?” Asked the merchant.

“Everything,” the man answered, reaching for his check book. So the  bargaining began as the merchant took out paper and pencil.

“What do you own?”

“I have a house.” The merchant wrote: One house. “Anything else?"

“Two cars.” Noted.  “A wife? Children?” The man nodded and held up three fingers.

“One wife. Three Children,” the merchant listed. “Bank accounts? Saving accounts?” All assets, even his family pets were added to the merchant’s list.

“Now, here’s how it works. The pearl is yours to keep but everything you own is mine. But I’m a busy man so you will now be my steward, responsible for all my property.” He looked at the man. “Understand?” At the man’s nod, he continued. “Handle my possessions with great care.”

This is how it works in our lives, too. Just as the merchant owns everything, Our Lord Jesus does and has entrusted us with riches untold. Family, friends, abilities--all to show His Graciousness towards us and others. Everything we have is His.

Kingdom Thinking. As we journey through this life, there will be so many that we can reach out to in the Name of Jesus. This message of love and forgiveness of sin will be foolishness for many but to the ones who hear and believe, it is the power of God. And you? Do you believe? The
Lord Jesus is waiting for you.
